It seems the carp had eaten Edwards Sun Tripper Cap

It seems the carp had eaten Edward's Sun Tripper Cap

The “Tell Us Your Story” has finally come to an end and the results are in. Congratulations to Edward Gasser of Illinois who wins the $50 gift certificate to sundayafternoons.com. Thanks to everyone who sent in their entries.

They hadn’t been biting for 4 weeks, but today I stumbled onto the ‘honey pot’.

The mighty Rock River was gently pushing a rich scum of dead insects and algae against a large fallen hickory laying in the water.  Yes, the big carp were there, you could see their large mouths vacuuming the foam off the surface, occasionally you could see their broad, bronzed backs breach the water.  “Slurp, slurp”.  I suspect it must be like chocolate malted for the carp.  Rich and creamy.  A carpy Spirolina, perhaps.

I settled into my folding chair, threw out my hook baited with creamed-corn/oat meal doughball, and picked up the Sunday Afternoons  summer catalog.

Exotic full color fotos of handsome men and women…where?  Is that Belice, Honduras?  It sets you dreaming.

It was cool and quiet in the dense shade of a river-bank giant ash tree. The sun to my back and the far shore of the river flooded in soft light. I didn’t need to wear my Sun Tripper Cap, but I was. It’s my favorite. Sometimes it’s as important to ‘be cool’ even in the shade.

“Zzzzzzzzzzz”, my reel sings and my line streaks out into the river.  A feisty orange tailed carp was going for the far shore. I threw down the catalog and entered the battle in earnest.  He leaped clear out of the river and then headed for the sunken tree.  He’ll snag and I’ll lose him.

I finally slid him gently onto the shore and extracted the hook.  Boy, 29 inches, perhaps 15 lbs.  I nudged him back into the river and settled back into my chair, take up the Sunday Afternoons catalog and next thing I know I’m watching tarpon leap in cascades of the Rio San Juan.

The Sun Tripper Cap is one of our favorites too.  With a 50+ UPF sun protection, folding brim, and great style the Sun Tripper Cap. Hook yourself one from our website!

Adventure and Sport hats in Tazmania

A photo of Tazmania from one of our team members backpacking trips. (Adventure and Sport hats pictured).

For years we have had customers call us up or find us at one of our festivals and share really incredible, funny, or inspiring stories about or involving their Sunday Afternoons hat or shirt.  These great stories are born from loyal customers who have traveled the world, overcome cancer or other skin related diseases, taken advantage of their backyard, or just wear Sunday Afternoons products on a regular basis. Whenever we hear a good story,  it always brightens our day and makes us feel like we are providing great products to you.  Of course, we always end up sharing that story with the rest of the staff .

This month we want to hear some more great stories from all of you.  We will be giving away a $50 giftcard to our online store at: www.sundayafternoons.com. for the best story.  The top three runners up will win a free Sun Tripper hat. All you need to do is submit a story about something fun, exciting, or inspirational that involves or is about a Sunday Afternoons Product.  Creatively tell your story (it still has to be a true story) and a flair for the dramatic is always good. The submission needs to be a minimum of 250 words long, and preferably something other than hanging out on your couch all day while wearing your hat (although if you make it interesting enough, it could win). The stories will be judged by Sunday Afternoons staff and the winner will appear on our blog. Only one submission per person. Contest ends on October 30th, 2009.

We would like to thank you all in advance for all the good reads we have coming our way.

E-Mail your submission to: contest@sundayafternoons.com
