We all benefit from nature. The beauty of wild lands inspires our creativity and healthy habitats nourish us with wholesome food and clean water. Protected lands act as natural filters, reducing pollutants that diminish water quality. Open spaces give us room to play, exercise, and explore.

For four decades, the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy has served the greater Rogue River Basin by protecting natural lands; building a cleaner environment today and more resilient planet for future generations.

With the help of our members and business sponsors such as locally-grown Sunday Afternoons, SOLC is creating a lasting conservation legacy. Together we’re protecting some of Southern Oregon’s greatest treasures by working with landowners who choose to sustainably live and work on their lands by curtailing development and improving ecosystems.

THE HEART OF THE ROGUE

Acquired by SOLC in 2017, the Rogue River Preserve—350 undeveloped acres with two miles of river frontage—is home to special plants such as white fairypoppies and threatened bird populations including the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. On a visit to the Preserve you might catch a glimpse of black-tailed deer, or even elk, beaver, bobcats, and owls.

CONSERVED PRIVATE LANDS

In the most southern corner of Ashland lies the Colestin Valley, a region of amazing biodiversity, and one of the most important wildlife corridors in Oregon. SOLC recently protected 160 acres of land, which supports threatened oak woodlands and declining wildlife such as Acorn Woodpeckers and Pacific fishers. In total, SOLC protects 2,035 acres in this vital region.

FARM LANDS

SOLC partners with landowners to protect forests and farmlands such as Eagle Mill Farm along Bear Creek where salmon return to lay eggs in the streambeds and farmers raise organic crops. White Oak Farm and Education Center, located in Williams is dedicated to cultivating connections between people and their local ecosystems by pursuing community-based food security, fostering agricultural and ecological diversity, and teaching the arts of sustainable living.

C2 Range

WORKING RANCHES

Conservation agreements preserve a way of life and a way to make a living by conserving working ranchlands in places such as C2 Ranch in Eagle Point where cattle gracefully coexist with native plants and animals thanks to thoughtful grazing, irrigation, and timber-harvest practices.
